Intense Pulsed Light (IPL),
Posted by MaryKay (562 days ago)
I am considering getting the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL for hair removal. Has anyone tried this? Does it work? I have been quoted 15,000 for half leg and bikini for 6 treatments each other 6-8 months. Is this a fair price. I would really love some information.I have blond hair but I was told by the spa that their machine works on light hair, is this true? I know in Canada they told me the laser hair treatment would not work for me can this IPL treatment work on light hair?
Thanks so much,

Hi,
I have had 3 bikini line treatments, hairs to grow back at a slower rate than just having them waxed, I am not sure if it works well for blond hair as the pigmentation does not absorb alot of light but your best bet is to speak to the salon, I use Unique in TST 23690399.
Good luck

Look up this site: www.lvcosmeticsurgery.com and go to the questions section. It's worth the hassle as he answers every question one has on IPL and all cosmetic queries, he is very personable. Lots of IPL stuff in the archives. Good luck

Works well on thick, dark hairs but not on fine, light hairs. After ten sessions, my legs have reacted pretty good but the finer hairs on my arms are still there.

Meems, did you have to let the hair on your legs grow full length (!) in order for them to be 'zapped' by IPL or can it attack the follicles under the skin?

Thanks so much for the responses. I'm a bit worried the light hairs won't work and 10 sessions sounds like a lot. They told me 6 sessions was enough. The salon tells me there machine is different and can get light hairs.Just a question on price now is 15,000 a fair price for 6 sessions on half leg and bikini?
Take care and thanks. I'm going to check out the website now.

Costs are tumbling as newer lasers hit the market.Back in Cali you can buy your own pocket laser hair removal device!15,000 is twice what I pay.
I have fine mousey bownish hair on my legs and you are right,I have had better results with the under arm than the leg so far.I am having laser on both my legs and under arm(now the 3rd treatment) and have had over 70% hair loss.Legs I am paying 7,800 and arm pit 4,800.This is unlimited treatments for up to a year. The laser machine they use is the Apogee Elite which apparently is the most effective form of permanent hair removal.Check out www.cynosurelaser.com or call to book a consultation at 2833 2950.They don't charge for a consult and most importantly ask them to do a test area for you to see free of charge!

I'm having my underarms and bikini line done with Justine at Beautiful Skin Center in Pacific Place and am over the moon with results!! After 3 sessions my underarm hair is all gone and I probably only need to another 1-2 treatments on my bikini line. Keep in mind I have dark hair on fair skin, which IPL works best on. I think they have a promotion at the moment 35% off trial IPL.

I know that Elemis Day Spa in LKF does this and the price is around $2,000 per session. However, if you buy a course it cuts the price.

I was told that IPL is not permanent, hence I tried the laser at CASE at times square. Result is good but bikini area needs more than 6 times for sure eventhough I have darker hair and fair skin. $15,000 for IPL is expensive, that's more for laser hair removal price. But you're right, it works better on asian hair i.e dark hair. If you've fairer hair, you need more treatments though subsequent treatments after the 6th are free as it's part of the 3 yr maintenance program.

Tried laser though i have light fine hair, didn't work well for me. Now i am doing electrolysis on my bikini area by a qualified electrologist/therapist. It takes time but its worth it. That was the only best option left for me to get rid of my unwanted hair.

Is laser better than ipl - what is the latest and best results for fair skin and dark hair and where is the best place to get it done?

IPL is laser. And to clarify, because everyone's hair grows in cycles (I think its 4), it will always take a minimum of 4 sessions to ensure that all the hairs are zapped.
I just did my 4th IPL on my armpits - totally clear now. I expect I will need a top up in around 5 years. Dark hair on fair skin is the best combo for IPL. I too use Justine at the Beautiful Skin Centre in Pacific Place. She's a wizz with IPL and has a great new machine. I think they have offers on too if you check.

I did IPL on my armpit and bikini line & i am very impressed with the result, its all clear now. It was all done in 4-5 sessions. I went to see Nicole. She is a professional. Heard and read a lot about her and i am glad i went to her. She is located in Central 93645271

IPL needs an average of 6 treatments. Pumpkin was right, minimum 4 to get on top of all the hairgrowth cycles. Having an experienced therapist/operator makes all the difference. Honestly, they should give you all the ins and outs and info before they start.
It does work better on a darker hair, a medium brownish hair may need more sessions as the target for the light from the machine (being the pigment in the hair) is not as strong, so the machine made need repetition to destroy the root under the skin that nourishes the hair and makes it grow.
Steer clear of any IPL machines that are desk top machines, they don't have the power to do the job.
You shouldnt have to pay Dr's or dermatologist prices to get a good job in HK. But do your research. Couple of good machines.. the Ultra Energist - they use it at Beautiful Skin Centre in Pacific Place and one called The Elite Plus which they use at Elemis Day Spa.

IPL needs to be chosen carefully. I did my underarm treatment in a doctor's clinic. His name is Mike Ho. He's a dermatologist and having his clinic in Happy Valley. He'll provide you a consultation session in the first time and see if your skin is suitable for the IPL treatment. Then he'll explain to you with all details about the pros & cons of the treatment... My underarm treatment took 6 sessions and since then, I have no problem with the hair growing back! I've done it for almost 4 years. If you're interested to see him, book an appointment on 2890 6326 or info@lightmac.com

Boo_Boo, did the 6 underarm treatment sessions take almost 4 years to work?? Is that an extension of a 'maintenance programme' mentioned by SummerG in another post above? Even allowing for hair growth cycles, it still seems a long time.
