Chinese nationals to HKG

Can anyone tell me whether Chinese national require a "passport" to travel from Mainland China to HKG for a holiday / visit? I have a friend who wishes to travel from Nanning to HKG for 5 days/nights but does not have a passport, but only has the ID national card.

yes, she must have a passport released at the same local police office where her ID card was issued. It's very easy in some cities, but very complicated in others, she can make a call to the Nanning Police Station （CHU JING CHU）to know more.

It all depends on where she is from in China. Get her to check with her local PSB.
