Don't mind a bit of rain but when is the best time to go and does anyone have any advice on where to stay what to do and how to get there from HK? Many thanks
I was in Hoi An 2 weekends ago - cool, cloudy, but no rain as I recall. Where to stay depends on what you like in the way of accomodations. What to do, I have generally walked around the town, visited some of the old buildings and museums. If you are into cooking there are numerous cooking classes - no doubt there are visits to islands, other activities - do a bit of internet searching. I am in Dong Hoi right now (just a bit further north) and it is cold, so Hoi An is probably pretty "brisk" these days as well. I would wait a bit, unless you don't mind cold weather and wearing heavy clothing. If you have to schedule well in advance, March or April are probably a good bet - but check on when the rains are.
