We are planning 2 weeks in S. Africa in May. Spending 4 nights doing a Safari in Kruger Park and then the remaining time in Cape Town.
The safari is fine with our daughter who is almost 3. My husband doesnt think SA is good to bring our daughter, but I really want it to be a family vacation, plus she LOVES animals and so do I.
Can anyone give me any advise or anything on if it ok to bring a child to.
We travelled to Capetown in September last year with a 4 year old and 1 year old. Definately great for the kids. There is no pollution and the beaches are beautiful - especially Camps Bay Beach. You can drive to Simons Town and visit the Penguins. The kids loved that. There is also an excellent aquarium in the V&A Waterfront in Capetown. Speirs Winery in Stellenbosch is worth a visit. They have a deli which will pack a picinc lunch which you can eat outside by the pond and the childrens playground. They also have a cheetah reserve. Another thing your child would enjoy is taking the revolving cable car to the top of Table Mountain.
We chose not do do a safari as our youngest was too young. But you will definately enjoy Capetown.
your agent handling the safari trip should be able to tell you which places have kid friendly safari parks. Some do not allow kids. We used asia to africa (you can google them) and they were very helpful.
We actually rented a house in Hout Bay which is about 20 minutes drive out of Cape Town. We know the area quite well and have friends there which is why we chose that area. You might be hard pushed to find something in Capetown for less than USD100 per day.
hi jassy67
We travelled through Zimbabwe and Mozambique with our 6 year old and 1.5 year old boy. Although we had friends to help, our kids loved the trip. I suppose its a case of how well your children behave. I remember approaching a herd of zebra on safari and having our boy scream......let's just say the zebra didn't hang around for long......well, we thought it was funny. We now look at all our awesome photographs and our children ooo and aaaa at all the amazing animals they remember.
I think you can travel anywhere with children. It's all about being prepared. Bottles, nappies, toys and a sense of humour. Wouldn't dream of travelling without them.
