We are looking to travel at Chinese New Year (yes I know we have left it late but we have just arrived) and want to go to a family friendly resort.
We have 3 kids aged 9,6 and 3 and therefore need to have 2 rooms but would like them to be connecting.
We have looked at the Shangri La in Kota Kinabalu but have found that if we book as a package deal we pay 10,000HKD less than if we book with the hotel directly BUT we are not guarenteed connecting rooms. This is a huge difference. The travel agent told me that the only way to know if you have connecting rooms before you go is to book directly with the hotel and pay 10,000HKD more.
Otherwise the only other option is the Hilton in Cebu (which has family suites) or Club Med.
Is this correct? Do people with kids really pay 10,000HKD more per week or risk their kids being in a different part of the hotel?
As we are new here I would appreciate any info or family-friendly travel agent recommendation.
Have you tried calling the hotel directly. Ask for the reservations manager and explain your situation. In some cases they will book you in a t a rate close to the wholesale rate the travel agents book and then you can get your rooms.
Travel agents get very discounted rates and then mark them up to make a profit AND get commission from the hotel, so the hotel would gladly avoid the middle man. It's worth a call to the hotel
