I have not been before and am taking a friend for a day. Would be grateful for advice on what I must see/do, considering it is only a day's trip? Many thanks!
Hello,
I can recommend you ALORCHA restaurant, it's typical portuguese food. It's very good.
It's Rua Do Almirante Serigo N289, it's between the navigation school and the maritime museum. You need to take a taxi.
The service was excellent
Fernandos - this place is over rated. Long waits and since there are no other choices nearby, people wait. That said, the food is good and relatively cheap. In my opinion there are better choices for Portuguese food.
There was a restaurant that had a wide verandah that we ate at in an old Portuguese gov't building. I am not sure if it is still there as it might have been sold by now. I remember the ambiance was fantastic.
I beg to disagree on the over-rated... however I will agree that it can be a bit of a hassle to wait but because Fernandos is so good that people make the relatively long drive out knowing they will have to wait if they show up after 6pm (no RSVPs on the weekend are accepted).
But then thats part of the aura of the restaurant - and you can sit outside and enjoy some good wine at knock down prices.
I have also been to some other good restaurants in Macau with excellent ambiance (but nowhere near the food) however if you are with a group nothing beats Fernandos for atmosphere.
anyway - thank you all - I have now been. As I mentioned it Ed, I loved Fernandos and we did not have to wait - we got there at 12.30 - so excellent all in all! The one PH is talking about might be the army something or other building? supposed to be nice, but I understand pricey..
Club Militaire is cool... I went years ago... dont recall the food but it was certainly a nice experience to have dinner in that that very old colonial building. Make sure you bring a proper jacket if you go.
