I will be moving from Australia to HK in a few weeks. In Australia I have ADSL broadband and use a Belkin wireless ADSL modem/router for the home laptop. I will be bringing my existing laptop to HK. From what I understand all broadband in HK is cable, therefore am I correct in assuming my modem/router will be useless in HK? Should I just buy a new wireless router to hook up to the broadband cable modem? Any advice would be appreciated.
I work on systems throughout Asia and can tell you that even cable modems connect to routers in the same way as ADSL modems do - via a std RJ45 patch cable. Unless you have a particularly old router, you should not have any problem connecting your new HK connection to your Belkin router once you arrive in HK.
The biggest problem most people face with bringing their computer equipment to international locations is with the power adaptors and warranty. I believe Aust and HK have the same 220 power standard.
