printer printing wierd symbols

trying to install my printer onto my laptop and it doenst seem to like it! if i try tp orint a test page i just get lots of wierd symbols-smily faces, love hearts, spades etc...any ideas on how i can fix this!
the printer s a hp deskjet 930c and im running windows xp

IMHO, even though PnP devices do not necessarily require a PC reboot after installation, it is always a good idea to do so.

With your printer turned off and disconnected, uninstall the 'old' drivers, reboot, reconnect the printer and turn it on, reinstall the latest drivers, reboot again and see if your problem has disappeared.
