Barring someone from your emails

Do people know if you have barred them from sending you emails?

Create a hotmail account, then bar it, and the send a e-mail from that e-mail to the one you set up the bar from, you will then have an answer to your question

I guess it would depend on the technique used.
If you somehow set things up so your ISP's (Internet Service Provider's) server rejected the message, the sender should be notified.
If you set up a filter in your e-mail program that sent a sender's e-mails directly to trash without reading it, probably the only thing the sender would receive, if anything, would be a delivery receipt (if the sender requests that when sending the msg - if not, the sender should not receive anything).
If you delete an e-mail without reading it however it would depend on e-mail systems of the ISPs and the programs being used. There is a certain office that I communicate with by e-mail. If the recipients of my messages from that office delete a message without opening it I get a return message that it was deleted without opening, naming the account that deleted it. I am using Thunderbird as my e-mail client. I don't know why that happens, but it happens with only this specific office; regardless of who deletes my message unread in that office, I get a notice.
If it is really important, you could always block a friend's e-mail and ask them to send you a msg and tell you what happens - keeping in mind that the result may vary with ISPs.

That is so interesting that you get a notice that someone has deleted before reading !
I am just talking abt yahoo and hotmail and don't feel like making a fake acct for this purpose. Trying to keep cyberspace green

Interesting it is! I am sure that the folks in that office would do something to "correct" the situation if they knew this occurred. I however am not telling them.

I use outlook for e-mail and it has a preview window, so I can read e-mail without opening them up >may times I delete e-mails after reading an "FYI" e-mail in the preview screen.
As for the original question, if you are not willing to take the 5 minutes to do a small test on your own, I guess you will not know for sure. You can easily create the account then delete it when you are done, so keeping cyberspace green really is not the issue.

I used Yahoo and barred myself from one acct. Nothing happens.
It does not get thru but it also does not bounce back so I don't really like that because the person you are barring keeps thinking they are getting through.

If you want them to know they are barred, just e-mail them and tell them to stop...

If you bar someone, why do you want them to know that they have been barred?
Isn't the whole point of barring someone that you no longer wish to communicate with them at all?
Yahoo and Hotmail do not send a message to the original sender - this would only result in an even greater number of pointless emails circulating around the world.

Honestly, everyone gets so mean here.
What if I have a pest or a bill collector or an ex that I don't want to think got through to me?
By giving no error messaage of anything, they will think it got through, at least I would.

honestly, then just delete the message then if you don't want to read it. Most e-mail programs you can block somebody, or dump it into a spam folder.
Why is it it important that they think the mail is not going through? Are you trying to make a point to someone??

that is not a really problem, why don't you not directly tell him/her never sending you message weither by e-mail or else, i guess they're not stupidity enough to recognize about it.in mylife experience i am, or was always being open mind and directly person.

So you have never had someone who will not give up and you don't want to give up your first email account ever?
If they don't get an error message, they will never stop. They just assume I am still receiving whether it goes into my bulk folder or not.
Not sure why you guys are so rude.

Not being rude, simply trying to provide an answer to your changing question(s).
To answer your latest question, yes I have had that situation. The solution? Ban them, set their email address to always be treated as Junk or set up a email rule to delete their emails automatically. In all cases it matters not if they continue to send emails as everything is deleted and you can continue to use your first email account ever as you see fit.

Do a "vacation response" to the one/s who you want to avoid. Copy and paste a real error message so it looks right and then send it......
