Problem opening attachments
Posted by kalia (470 days ago)
Every time i try to click to open an attachment someone has sent with an e mail, unless it is a microsoft doc, i get a message saying a pop up window was blocked. Whats happening??? This has been going on for 3 weeks now. BTW, I am not tech savvy at all, so please if u know whats happening, reply in simple terms, thanks.

Are u using Outlook Express? Cos OE blocks certain attachment it deems as unsafe.

Well, it would help if you said what e-mail program you are using - probably LookOut, er Outlook or one of its many un-userfriendly variations. I use Thunderbird so I can't tell you how to fix whatever program you are using. You should have someone who is tech savy look at the settings - or your can try and do it "remotely" thru this list, if a knowledgeable LookOut user happens to chime in.
If by chance you are using webmail then it is another issue all together. I can download attachments from some webmail sites, and not from others.
Based upon the limited information you do provide, I would go into your e-mail program's settings (tools?, options?) and disable the pop up window blocking, see if you can now download, and then start tinkering to "tighten" things up again. I think there is a setting in Thunderbird to allow pop-ups from specific sites (I don't have such problems with tbird, so I am kind of winging it here). No doubt, whatever program you are using probably has similar configuration options.
If you are using a new computer that you bought 3 weeks ago, I would go back to the retailer and ask for assistance. It should be a simple fix. If it is an old machine that worked fine up to 3 weeks ago, what did you/someone do to the machine, just before it stopped downloading non-doc attachments?

don't click open click download :) save that attachment to your computer and you can open it and see if you find out that it's something that you no need then just delete :)
if you use IE then you have to disable popup blocker as ldldjr say
Good luck!

yes and then to open it, sometimes you need to save and then open it with the fax/view program.
