I have 2 hard disks on my machine taking up both SATA connectors. I have an additional 120GB SATA disk which I also want to hook up to the PC. Can anyone tell me if I can have this connected. There are 2 SATA RAID connectors but I do not want to run RAID. Can I buy a cable and hook the HDD up to the IDE controller? Any advice would be appreciated!
As an alternate suggestion, you could always pick up an External USB Hard Drive as well for some extra storage space (if that's your main purpose). It's a good and simple way to back up important files as well and can easily be used on different computers.
It used to be that you could have two devices attached to each hard disk controller, which is why each ribbion cable had connectors for two devices - a master and a slave - so 4 hard drives were a possibility unless you had a cd/dvd, a zip drive, or other devices attached (SCSI devices had greater flexibility). I don't know about SATA specifically, but I would be surprised if that is no longer possible. Do a quick web search.
