Does anyone have experience of giving birth at the Prince of Wales Hospital or the Union Hospital in Tai Wai. Would be good to hear of your experiences. Which DR's you used.
Frogpink, I was supposed to give birth at the Union Hospital (my gynae is from the Union Hospital) but ended up at the Prince of Wales hospital because I gave birth prematurely.
I used Dr Lok Yee Ha. She was really good and was able to detect problems very early which helped A LOT. However, I went back to her 2 months ago and heard that she is no longer delivering babies. She's head of the cervical department. There's another dr from the Union that is HIGHLY recommended by friends - Dr Connie Yuen. Maybe you could try her.
My experience at the Prince of Wales was just wonderful. The drs were really skilled and the staff were really helpful. They also helped me a lot with breastfeeding/pumping. Toilets could have been cleaner (they get cleaned once a day) but they are acceptable. There were 8 beds to a ward (I think, can't remember now) but they weren't always occupied and it didn't matter because we all helped each other out. The mother next to me helped me get off the bed the day after my c-section - not once but several times. She had her section 3 days before me.The best thing is, I stayed for 3 weeks and bub was there for 2 weeks and we only paid HK$2,400 all up. A bargain for the level of care and expertise we received.
I'm sure private's BETTER but you'll have to pay HK$40k-50k as opposed to the almost-free fee you pay for public.
Good luck. I'm sure you'll be in good hands whichever one you choose.
We actually had the same decision to make when my wife was pregnant. Originally we were going to go with Union Hospital as PWH was so packed full of mainlanders at the end of last year. However our decision changed after the new rules were introduced in February. PWH hospital cleared nicely and Union Hospital started resembling Little Shenzhen. So went with PWH and was a damn good decision. For my wife in and out in 3 1/2 days with a bill of $350.
sorry for late response.
Thanks for the great advise. I still havn't decided on what I will be doing yet. For your pre-natal checks did you go private or public.
Actually my wife did a mix of both. She followed the public program but also saw private consultants for scans, etc. So everything was fine for whatever decision we were going to make.
