Looking for some ideas on the best health insurance and hospital recommendations . Just starting to plan on having a family and getting a little organised.
I have heard that the public hospitals here are we you are sent in an emergency so should i go there or to the Matilda?
I think ALL insurances in HK - you need 12 month coverage BEFORE you actually get pregnant. SO if you're already pregnant, qualifying for maternity coverage is impossible. If not - I think the best one is by Allianz - the international plan where 100% is covered. (A matilda hosptial stay all bells and whistles including midwife visits too.)
Public health system hospitals are also good - just learned recently that you are "zoned" for a particular hosptial based on where you live. It's incredibly cheap to have your baby, and the care is very good. People complain about the food (it is disgusting) and the "factory processing line" feel of the hospital - but my best pregnancy experience has been through the public system in HK.
Allianz - but do a search on this forum, because you need to get the International (not Asia) premier/gold plan to get full coverage.
This is covered in detail in an earlier thread.
Search for 'Allianz'
And contact Neil@kwiksure.com for any more details...
Actually, there is no need to take the Gold plan. All pre and post natal etc is covered under the Maternity Benefit of the Premier or Club Hospital Plans.
You can also look into GlobalHealth plans. They have a 3 month waiting period for maternity coverage, although the cap is lower than Allianz. You can contact fanny@healthcare-one.com.
That is correct, there is a 3 month waiting period. However the conception must be after the 3rd month, so nine months later, the actual birth will be after the 12th month. So in effect there is a 12 month waiting period.
Although, with the 3 month waiting period the pre and post natal charges will be covered.
The Hong Kong Rates from Allianz have increased by about 60% due to the excessive claims they have received. Medical services in Hong Kong is not cheap and can be considered only 2nd or 3rd behind the USA. Of course this is not the only reason, with medical advances comes new drugs and technology and these need to be covered aswell.
