My son will turn into 16 next year. He is interested in studying in Australia. He is now studying in an ESF echool in HK. Does anybody know any of the good boarding schools (doesn't matter whether it is boys' or co-ed) in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth ?
Melbourne Grammar and Scotch College in Melbourne are the two top boarding schools for boys there. I went to girls' grammar school there, 2 of my friends (boys) went to those schools as boarders. The elder brother went to Melbourne Grammar and the younger brother went to Scotch. They got top scores (top 1%) in the state of Victoria. They both went to do Medicine in Melb Uni.
I know a boy who is a boarder in Melbourne Grammar now and he is enjoying the boarding life there a lot. He went to HKIS before.
My brother went to Ivanhoe Grammar in Melbourne (for boys). He started as a non-boarder in primary school and then a boarder since Year 9. The school is smaller than the other two and a bit cheaper. My brother swears by his school. His academic results improved so much since he started boarding there. The tutors in boarding helped him a lot. He is now 28, has his own dental practice (he is a dentist) and has managed to buy 3 properties there in the past 3 years.
I would highly recommend The Kings School in Sydney - even though it wasn't on your list of cities.
It has set been up as an exemplar for boarding schools, has many and varied extra curricular activities and sports. They have an excellent leadership program set up for the older boys. The principal is dynamic, a great leader and approachable.
