In short, the FIS is everything a school should be! My daughter is attending the reception class in the international stream at the FIS, and has developed both academically and spiritually. The small class sizes and individual child approach is helping her to develop in maturity and academically.
I would advise that you do a seach on this forum under French International School. If you read through the treads you may get an idea of the school. I would also look at their examination pass statistics and compare them to other schools in Hong Kong of which most have either on their web pages or will give to you on request. I would also enquire as to the staff turnover of the school which is always a good indication of how good a school is. If the turnover is high you may want to ask the question Why? A site visit with your child would be beneficial.
Two years before we had a poor experience with the French School. We were looking for a nursery school for our son for september.
We are French, our son is fluent in French but was not speaking a single word of English.
The school explained to us that the nursery had to move for an other location because it was too small in happy valley. But at that time, it was in April 06, they were unable to give us the new location of nursery in sept 06.
Moreover, they had told us" if we don't find a new location we will close the nursery. But today we have no idea at all".
We asked them to go to the international nursery but they explained us that as our son was not speaken a single word of English he would failed the test and can't go to international nursery.
The French school is very popular, is in fashion.
But in many countries the French school select the children not according to their level of French but according to the bank account of the parents.
I have no comments about the quality of the teachers, because I don't know them. But I don't appreciate the way they told us "we don't want your child".
Our son is in an international school, English one. After 6 months he was fluent in English.
