Can anyone recommend a brand/model? I want to get one to encourage my child to get more exercise. He is not very active. I like the ones with push handles so parents can help steering.
Toys Club has the Radio Flyer trike... unfortunately, my LO didn't like it - and horrors of horrors - she is taken with the "cartoon character" trike in Toys R Us....
"we just bought a little tiny bike with training wheels for our two year old, very cute."
I'm going to have to get on my soapbox here and say this may be inappropriate.
Training wheels delay learning to bicycle. In Sweden most kids never have training wheels, since they are seen as a crutch. To compensate, kids stay on their tricycles for longer and move to bicycles when they are old enough to balance (typically around 4).
A two year old on a bike is perched high up on a faster moving vehicle. This can be a bit risky.
It's your kid of course and you know him/her best. I just wanted to add my two cents.
"Just curious why Swedes consider training wheels a crutch but not a tricycle? "
A tricycle is very different from a bicycle. A tricycle is balanced in and of itself. Once on a bicycle, the child should not (in Swedish thinking) be allowed to think that he or she need not keep his/her balance. The training wheels make the transition to just two wheels more difficult.
At the very least, the training wheels are misnamed as they do not "train" at all. They simply turn the vehicle into something that doesn't resemble a bicycle in behavior.
The usual Swedish method is to find a plot of grass (good luck in HK) and let the child ride and fall until he/she learns.
