how to keep baby warm in winter
Posted by the goddess kali (177 days ago)
we'll be going to italy with baby at the end of december for three weeks. I'm a tropical girl who's quite terrified at the idea of subjecting babe to subzero temperatures.
any suggestions on what i can take with me to keep him nice and snuggly warm?

baby bag. It's like a sleeping bag thats fleecy but with arms. My daughter slept in one when she was a little bub and on the really cold days I used to put her in it. Worked a treat. Don't forget the good old beanie as well to keep the ears & head snug and warm.

meant to add that you can sometimes buy the baby bags with fold over mittens attached to keep the hands warm

I have definately seen them over here, perhaps Mothercare or bumps to babes, maybe even toys r us. I suggest you hit the baby places to check it out. Absolutely can be used in strollers. If the strap goes up between the legs to meet the harness, it's just a matter of scrunching up the bag with the legs on either side, no problem at all and bub stays snug and warm. Good luck!

Hi goddess kali, I have just been scanning the classifieds section here on Asia Expat (looking for a cot) and I noticed lots of grobags (sleeping bags) for sale, you might want to check it out, just do a search at the start. Good Luck

Actually we are going back to England at end of December as well, although in south so not as cold as Italy can get but a damn site colder than HK! I've had the family mail out a couple of baby bags and some warm clothing so we can wrap her up straight off the plane. Seems to be difficult to get stuff more suited to European winters here.

my very kind sister'-in-law has offered to help and get hold of baby bags in italy for me today. Shenzhen has a hopeless selection of warm babywear. i will check out B2B and mothercare anyways.

Hello,
I come from a cold place in Europe and had my babies there.
When it's cold, you should put your baby in a sleeping bag, put him gloves and a cap. In the sleeping bag your child must wear clothes for interior (underwear with long sleeves, trousers, tee shirt and pull over).
Don't forget to remove your baby from the sleeping bag (+gloves+cap) when you are inside somewhere; just cover him with a cover.
Enjoy Italy

Hi hi,
Use the warm little bags that are sold at seven eleven...just cost a few dollar each. Very very useful and easy to carry. but be careful not to put it under baby's clothes. It can get at hot at around 45 degree C at the beginning.

hi all thanks for your answers. my sisterin law told me she's got hold of the snowsuits/warm bags for baby to use. i'm so grateful to her.
neenib, i did look on the classifieds, there's a sheepskin insert for strollers that maybe a good idea, but i have a wool allergy, so i'm still thinkin gabout it.
i had a look in stanley on saturday and they have few that could be ok. only problem is that they were truly ugly...
