My son who is 4.5 years has some significant pain in his calves or feet every 3 - 4 months. It usually happens in the middle of the night and he will whimper in agony and I'll massage the painful area for quite awhile until he falls asleep. In the morning, he is completely fine as if nothing had happened.
I am speculating that it is growth spurt pains. Has anyone had similar experience with your child? If so, could you let me know how you dealt with it and whether it was growth spurt pains? Thanks so much.
See if you can increase his calcium and magnesium (twice as much calcium as magnesium) supplements before that painful time. Also, give him ibuprofen for the pain.
When the pain is middle of the night its usually a growth spurt. THe same thing happened to my child and thats what all the docs said. Has he been active on his feet during the day when he gets the pain? Panadol helps with pain, if you do give ibuprofen (not on an empty stomach). Increase his intake of protein needed for growth and calcium, magnesium for healthy bones. Meat, fish and glass of milk, bananas. It the pain persists over a longer period of time especially when active then i would consider getting him checked up. Make sure he wears good supporting shoes which support the ankle, not slippers etc...
