Hi,
I've been having alot of pain in my left ear recently.
I was given anti-bis from our school doctor, but to no avail.
Can anyone recommend a doctor for me?
I called the one in garden hotel, but am unwilling to pay the $90usd for the consultation fee, as I am not exactly making 'expat money' lol.
My chinese isn't great, but I expect I can get someone to help with translating for me.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry can't help recommending a doctor, but have had about 10 ear infections in the last 18 months, so know a thing or two about it.
Oral anti-biotics don't work very well for ear-infections. You should ask for anti-biotic ear drops to be prescribed by the doctor - have it 3 times a day. Usually this will clear it up within 3 days.
Also to stop the pain, you will need to take normal painkillers (eg Panadine or Panadine-Forte if you are in a lot of pain) as well as an anti-inflammatory (eg Nurofen) together, otherwise it won't really work. I thought the doctor was trying to OD me when I first heard it, but it came from an ear specialist and it's been totally safe for me.
I think it depends on the type and location of infection! If money is a big concern, you might try going back to the same doctor. Sometimes they just need to know that plan A didn't work so they can go to plan B. Or, Dr. Ong in Wu Yang Xin Cheng (inside a hospital, beside river near Ramada hotel) is western trained, speaks English as well as Chinese, has Hong Kong medicines, and charges 200 RMB for an office consultation. phone 20 8737 9670
