"Because you're a straight woman who only goes out with her gay friends": been there before (well there were other single ones too) but more as a consequence of being single in my 30s than the other way round. You've got to carry on socialising don't you! And who remains very available? Fellow single people and... gays!

Interesting, but actually... a lot of paired people can be described this way. It is a very negative slant on being single... Makes me think of Barbara Feldon's [99 from TV's Get Smart] book on being single "Living Alone and Loving It: A Guide to Relishing the Solo Life"...
She gave voice to the concept that married bliss isn't the only way to happiness. Personally, I think a good relationship is a great thing, but so many people are paired with others who just don't suit them, living lives of abject misery.
Being single isn't always great, but neither is being partnered. It's rare [though wonderful] to find two truly compatible beings.

Agree with you there, hey, when you're single you kinda wish you had someone and when you have someone you kinda wish there was just a few moments where you didnt have to think about someone else hahaha.

I didnt mean that the list was a negative thing, I found it completely hilarious...If they had a "Why you are not single" list I am sure I would have posted that, but people tend to be more preoccupied with being single or unhappily coupled on this forum, so I thought it would be good for a laugh ;o)

Your single because you just don't want to live co-dependently any more or
you got tired of waiting for him/her to grow up
you were sick of spending Friday nights alone while he was at the pub...
Or Fate took him/her away...
or he ran off with the domestic helper, your sister or your neighbour...

I am single… and yup some... alot?... of JC's above doth apply… but there is a huge demographic of thirty plus something educated independently minded women out there… who know what they want, what they like and what they do not need…

I do not need a man to introduce me to society/life
… I do not need a man to be a potential provider… I do not need a man to affirm my presence through childbirth…

I live life, love life… one life eh…

Please folk enjoy whatever thee meantime proffers…




Oh and re: the poor eternally wronged man… pleaze get over it… or at least deal with your ‘issue’ here rather than seek something from every others posted pleas…

There's an element of truth in all of the explanations for being single and in a couple ... No harm in a little cynicism as a reality check. The point is, awareness is everything...and one must avoid extremism... head in the clouds infatuation with love is just as dangerous as disillusionment and disgust at being wronged in love.
I liked reading all of the explanations ... each one tells a story, doesn't it? More please! There is a world of experiences out there...

(My reason for being single: No compelling reason to get married, possibly that puts me in the category of people who are afraid of commitment).

Is there a list for why people do/do not have kids?
