hi, whats the deal about buying property in vietnam...?
I live in Hong Kong currently, maybe moving to HCMC, can I invest in property there while a resident in HK or can i even buy there when i live there in HCMC?
thanks
You should exercise extreme care as the property market lacks sophisticated laws that are essential in protecting your investment. Fraud is rife.
Some property is controlled as to who may occupy the premises.
Unfortunately you will need to get legal advice before hunting for your property - and even then check with the HCMC Peoples COmmittee office (city hall) as they are the final determinent as to whether you can purchase it, or not.
You would definitely have to reside in the country in order to be able to complete a deal.
Unlucky that you cannot own a proerty in Vietnam due to the limitation of the law except you are Viet kieu (Vietnamese oversea). However, there are some project they develop to sell to foreigner by a long term lease (50 yrs for example) then if the law change in the future, foreign buyer can register to own the property.
