moving to vietnam with pets

We are moving from Phnom Penh to Hanoi and hope to bring our two cats. Does anyone have any information on Vietnamese relevant regulations?

We brought our cat to VN two years ago. All we needed was a vet certificate of good health and up-to-date rabies shot certificate. I don't recall that anyone really cared when we went through customs.

The biggest problem we had was in getting an airline to accept the cat.

Hi Tracy, I guess you have moved to Vietnam by now. Was it still that easy? We will be moving to Hanoi this January, bringing to cats from Kuala Lumpur. The vet in KL tells us that we have to get an import permif from Min of Agriculture in Vietnam first. Mm. Trying not too think too much of the hassle that would be.

We simply brought our cat, with up-to-date vaccinations and a vet's certificate of good health. Sailed right through - airlines were a bigger hassel.

Moving to Ha Noi?

They l-o-v-e dogs thereabouts - preferably on a plate.

Take care of your pets and under control. We also export cats to China and have some good rat dishes here in VietNam.

While lots of dogs are eaten, lots of Vietnamese have pet dogs and cats - don't let DakLak give you too hard a time. In terms of total numbers there are probably a lot more VN pet dogs and cats than expat pets, in the cities.

Don't worry - he/she didn't scare me. Have visited Hanoi quite a few times and, like you say, have seen plenty of pet dogs and cats around. Just hoping that the rules are still as easy as you experienced > two years ago.

It is true though pets do disappear - my Vietnamese colleagues have mostly lost cats.

Just warning you - not wanting to scare you - well kept animals usually mean they are tasty. Have your tags done in VN and offer reward on them. Money comes in ahead of food.
