From Shanghai to Vietnam

Hi, like many others on this board it is likely my wife and I (with our newborn baby) will have the opportunity to move to Vietnam in the near future.

I am British, currently living in Shanghai and my wife is Chinese.

If I take this position I would probably need to commit for 3 years minimum, as it will be a new business venture. I would really appreciate some opinions from other expats who have also experienced living in Shanghai (and even better if they have chinese partners), about how they find living in Vietnam in comparison.

Equally, anyone with experience of working in the software industry in both locations... any information about general skill level, working attitude etc. would also be useful.

Naturally we will visit before commiting but I am aware after my experience in Shanghai that opinons of a city can change once the initial "honeymoon period" is over.

Hope to hear from anyone who has been in a similiar position.

I don´t fit many of the criteria that you have in your posting, except for one, after about 18 months the "honeymoon" is not over.
