Price of ADSL (broadband internet) these days

Could someone please tell me the costs of ADSL internet connection in Hanoi and HCMC these days. Cheers.

ADSL is not available everywhere in Hanoi, but the network is spreading.
It seems to me that I was quoted a maximum of 800.000 VND per month - it might have been 200.000 for setup and installation. I will have to dig through my receipts and see if I can come up with the exact figures.
If you are going to have asdl put in, get written price quotes and then check prices in town for a modem/router - I saved close to $200 by getting my own Zoom modem/router on Ly Nam De - and got a much better piece of equipment than was in the proforma.

800,000 VND a month seems to be really expensive (more than 3 times the cost in some european countries). I understand that much of this is to do with the development of new infrastructure etc, but have the prices been dropping recently? Thanks.

As I recall, in the US the most common prices are in the $30 - 40 per month range -- no great deals there.
I checked - 800.000 for setup (plus some other fees). The latest bill I could find was around 350.000 ($22) for the ADSL, which is well worth it. I would have to check for updated info on what the current rates are - I don't have the ADSL on 24/7 so it is less than the max. If I find some updated info at the postoffice I will post "the latest and greatest".

Excellent, thanks so much for your help. I'm planning on moving to VN in the summer, and I really needed to know information about internet services there for work and keeping in touch with friends/family back home.
Just one more question, how reliable is the connection there?
Cheers.

Try contacting FPT (www.fpt.com.vn).
1.2million dong for connection, including the modem. But this includes 800,000 dong of credit for ADSL use.
We have an unlimited plan which is 500,000 dong per month, but they deduct 100,000 dong each month at the moment from the 800,000 set-up credit.
The connection is very reliable - better than the service we had in Aust.

We have a pretty good connection in terms of reliability. I can use skype to talk adsl (Hanoi) to adsl (US) and it works very well for me (like talking on the phone except no charge). Streaming audio is usually pretty good. As with any system, there are the periods of no service, but they are rare and usually the system is back up fairly quickly. The speed seems a bit less than I had before coming to Vietnam, but it sure beats dialup!!!!!

It all sounds pretty good. What sort of download/upload speeds can I expect for that over there (512kbs, 1mbs etc)?
Thanks.

Post office brochure lists their "theoretical" download as up to 2 Mbps and uploads at 640 kbps. NO WAY! Start out with a dial-up connection, and you will be happy with ADSL when you finally get it!

Just one final question :-).
Do you have to rent out an ADSL line for a fixed period of time (e.g. 6 months, 12 months etc)?
Thanks

To my knowledge it is an open-ended arrangement.
