Room in Hanoi
Posted by tourist (1438 days ago)
I am looking for a room in Hanoi for one month from mid-August until mid-September. I am not looking for a serviced apartment, only a very basic room. But it must be cheap (I am on a backpackers budget), secure (from theft), and fairly quiet and private. It can be pretty much anywhere in Hanoi. It doesnt have to be big, or have western facilities. It just needs to be 1 room with a shower and sink. Thanks.

Fair enough - that place I mentioned would fit in with that. My friend and I used to rock back at all hours of the night pissed. They won't bug you about tours or whatever if you say you''re not interested. Friends would be ok, or girls if thats what you're on about.
From experience I just reckon renting a private room on your own would be a hassle with police, nosy neighbours etc. Or ask around teachers, expats, see if anyone has a spare room to sublet for a month, thinkng about it that may be the best option, best of both worlds. check out notice boards, ask around. enjoy

I think the best thing for you would be to negotiate a deal with a mini hotel in the Old Quarter. Its secure, private, cheap. A private rental is not really worth the hassle for a month plus it'd probably work out more expensive with less peace of mind. I can't really guide you on prices but bargain hard, get a few quotes and shop around. You could just get a room for the first night as a base to shop around from. Try Nam Phuongs 32 Hang Be, mate of mine stayed there for a month or so, they've got some cheap rooms. Bit of a Del-Boy character so bargain!

I dont particularly want a Hotel room because I want the freedom to come and go as I please, invite friends back, and not have tours to Halong Bay forced down my throat everytime I leave my room. Ideally I am looking for a room that is sub $150, but I would be prepared to pay upto $250-$300 if the room is nice.
