Visas for working

Hi

Got a couple of questions I'm trying to get to the bottom of. Hopefully you could help me out.

My wife is VN and we're planning to relocate later in the year to VN. Firstly can I just get a single flight to VN with no onward ticket and still gain entry? And I'm planning to work and do some teaching just initially - can I get a permanent residents card (which entitles me to work) outside VN? Basically I want to get in to VN and be able to work without having to buy a return ticket,

I'm "in touch" with the VN embassy in UK but they seem to be ignoring the phones most of the time or the cleaner picks up or some other suitably ignorant person...after 10 minutes on hold........<gritted teeth>

Any light you can shed would be great

Sounds like the same situation as mine. My wife is VNese but I can't get any permanent residency and can't get a visa longer than 6 months unless you have emloyment contract and are sponsored by the company.
Never heard of the onward ticket though. But do get visa before coming.
