Hotels in Vietnam - and Girls

I have a girlfriend who is from Vietnam and we have been together for over 2 years. Every time I go to visit the hotels refuse to let her stay with me. This ticks me off to no end!

Does anyone know any way around this save paying for 2 rooms in the hotel and checking her into one? This gets a little too expensive when you're paying for a room in the Omni or Caravelle...

Hi Jeff,

This is vietnam law, you can do much about change the law, but you can work around it. Have a talk with the security guard (or those guys standing at the door), give them US$10-$US20. This will do the job.

Vietnam culture is still not very open about local girl going out with the westerner, the first thing came to their mind is that lady must be a prostitute or just after money..there are some truth in this. I personally seen alot of local girls dresses & talk like slut when they hang out with foreigner. Some of the girl are yong enough to call them daddy...

Thanks for the bad advice.

Getting back to the the point, why should I have to spend double on a room in a 5 star hotel? I can understand the point of not wanting people to take hookers into the hotels but hell, I have never heard of such and absurd policy ANYWHERE!!!

I have no interest in renting an apartment because a) I dont want to have to clean up b) I want to be able to order a decent meal without having to go outside and c) I want to stay in a nice place. Going to Nha Trang or elsewhere is also ridiculous because I have business in HCM and I need to stay there.

Does anyone have some practical advice as to how to get around this?

What kind of ridiculous law is this? Cant the hotel tell the difference between a fat bald old man with a hooker and a normal guy with a normal respectable girl and invoke some common sense? I have been many places and I have never seen a country like this!!!!!

IF YOU CAN PAY FOR CARAVELLE OR OMNI, THEN IT IS NOT SO BIG DEAL A FEW MORE DOLLARS. WELL, HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU ASK FOR HELP HERE JEFF? LOOK, TRY TO RENT A ROOM OR APARTMENT. IT WOULD BE EASIER IF YOU TAKE HER FOR HOLIDAY TO NHA TRANG OR SOMEWHERE WHERE BOTH OF YOU CAN CHECK TOGETHER IN A BUNGALOW IN A ISLAND OR SOMETHING. HOWEVER, HOW COME THAT BOTH OF YOU DONT CHECK TOGETHER FOR THE SAME ROOM???? YO HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THEY CARE FOR YOUR SECURITY AND LOCAL CULTURE IS INVOLVED. WHAT IS MORE, ASK HER FRIENDS OR HER PARENTS TO LET YOU RENT A HOUSE FOR A MONTH (150 $ PER MONTH), SURE THEY WILL UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WANT TO MOVE YOUR TAIL.
