I was wondering if anyone could tell me the going rate for foreigners renting property in Hanoi. I don't need anything fancy at all, not even air-con/tv. A Vietnamese friend of mine thinks he can find me a place for around $20 a month which would be ideal. However, as a foreigner I am unsure of the property laws and other "taxes" I may have to pay the government. Can anyone please advise me on this? Thanks
Hey... I managed to rent a place for 50USD a month in Hanoi... it didnt have aircon but it was comfortable...
I shared with other foreigners and Vietnamese. We werent legally allowed to live there, so we talked to the police and registered as 'visiting' rather than renting... then handed over 100,000d 'bribe'... then no probs.
Generally though, you cant find a place for under 150USD
If you rent a private home from a Vietnamese local as opposed to an apartment from real estate company or apartment management group, you don't have to worry about paying taxes. You can rent a small house, 1-2 bedroom(s), in Hanoi for $200/month. That's the minimum.
