Vietnam Hotel Accomodation - Unmarried Couple
Posted by Richard (1782 days ago)
I read the discussion, raised by Jeff, about hotel accomodation difficulties with his VN girlfriend.
I intend to visit Vietnam with my Chinese girlfriend. Will they raise any difficulty to us, staying together in one room? Or, "foreigners", whichever country they are coming from, are always foreigners, and are not being asked any questions about their narital status?

They promise "no problem" but if your gf has oriental look (yours is Chinese, is it?) they may drag her through humiliating process of suspecting, checking, double checking, public shoutings etc. I had this bad experience!
Better choose high-class-English-speaking hotels.

Forgot to mention earlier, about my bad experience - my girlfriend is Taiwanese, born in Taiwan, having Taiwan passport. Still they treated her very bad!

To ALF:
"They"?
God knows who they were!
It has started from Front Desk staff and ended in the GM's office, in the presence of some "looks like" official.
Hotel? Cheap one.

To ALF:
It was one episode in Vietnam.
In mainland China, we did not even try to stay together.

To James --- I hope that your friend and you had a better experience after that episode!

"They" - Hotel Staff or Officials?
Posted by alf (1318 days ago)
I second that - as long as she is not a native Vietnamese. Proof of her passport should be sufficient.

To JEN:
Really?!
Posted by audrey (1318 days ago)
Only US citizen?
The initial question was about Chinese citizen!
Posted by audrey (1318 days ago)
That's what happened to me.
Be careful!
Posted by Jen (1318 days ago)
Oh come on now they dont put cameras in the rooms!

What's that RUBBISH?! Cameras?! We are in 2003, not in the dark ages!
Audrey, do you have any solid proof? Hotel name?

To Richard:
There should not be any problem with non-vietnamese passport holders.
For your own sake and convenience, if you book in advance, verify with travel agent / hotel there won't be any problems.

Thank you all for your comments.
Now I am really confused.
Barney, why two rooms? This "trick" is not a trick at all. It is two expensive for Saigon five stars hotels! I would not asked for assistance if I use this "trick".
