Rent Payments/Deposits

I have heard that when you sign a lease in Saigon for an aptment that you need to pay deposits PLUS an entire yrs rent up front! This sounds completely absurd - say it isn't so.

Standard is first and last when you stay in serviced properties such as Norfolk or Ocean Place etc...
