Where do expats go to watch movies?

Or buy good books?

Are there nice english movie theaters in HCMC? And english bookstores?

What if you're not into clubs -- how do you stay happy in Vietnam?

The question is what gave you happiness elsewhere?

I am not into clubs - and I am quite happy. I enjoy my Vietnamese friends and colleagues. I have been a volunteer with the local English clubs, acting as a resource - surprisingly I have usually been the only non-VN present. I study Vietnamese.

I don't know what the situation is in HCMC but there is a very nice cinema in Ha Noi that brings in very good movies, VN as well as foreign, old and new - there are also the larger commercial cinemas where you can see the latest and gratest stuff - western as well as Asian. There are bookstores (one English language bookstore).
