I know that having a spouse dependent visa entitles the spouse to work legally in HK but what about dependents who are still at school? I have two sons on those visas at an age where they are keen to earn some money of their own (they are 16 and 17) but have no idea what their status is legally re employment. Can anyone help please? And before everyone tells me they will have little chance of finding anything as they don't speak Canto I am well aware it could be impossible regardless of legalities but would like to know anyway!
It's my understanding that there is no restriction on them working on the basis of their visa status, so as long as they are employed in accordance with the relevant labour laws then no problem - other than the possible barrier you have already mentioned. However, if they got their DVs before the change (May 2006?) they will need to have the restriction removed from their passports before they can work for anyone. Failure to have that removed (it's a gimmee, by the way, but still needs to be done) before working is still a breach of their DV status.
