A foreign citizen working permanently for a Vietnamese entity in Vietnam must obtain a work permit.
WORK PERMIT
To apply for a work permit, an application in the prescribed form must be lodged.
Attached to the application must be:
1. a medical certificate issued in the last six months
2. curriculum vitae
3. three photos (3 x 4) which are made not more than one year from the date of application
4. police clearance letter from the relevant authority.
These documents must be translated into Vietnamese and either legalized by a competent authority or notarized by a competent Vietnamese authority.
Time to obtain: it usually takes 15 days from lodgment with the Vietnamese Authority.
Validity: the validity of a Work Permit depends on the labor contract but shall not exceed three years.
Reissue/extension: visas and work permits can be extended within Vietnam.
VISA
Time to obtain: it usually takes five working days from receipt of application by the Vietnamese Authority until visa is issued.
Validity: visas may be single or multi-entry and are valid for varying periods not exceeding 12 months.
Separate application for family members is required except for children under 14 years of age who are included in the visa application of their guardian.
